Romi Sink asked:
There are companies that claim that only “Kangen Water” has properties that can help or heal disease. Other companies claim that “kangen water” is nothing special, and still other websites say that “kangen water” along with “ionized” and “alkaline” water are just hype. In this article I’ll break “kangen water” down so you can decide for yourself – Hype? Miraculous? Or just marketing?
“Kangen Water” is a phrase that has been trademarked by the company “Enagic” to refer exclusively to the water produced by that company’s products. No other company is permitted to use this phrase to refer to the alkaline ionized water produced by their units. However, in 2009 Hironari Oshiro, owner of Enagic, released the rights to the trademark for use by Sanastec, a new player in the US market.
So what is “kangen water?” By definition, “kangen” is a Japanese word meaning “return to source.” By trademark, it is what is produced by Enagic or Sanastec ionizers. In actuality it is water that has been restructured by passing through an electrolysis chamber.
All major companies in the industry use the same basic technology to produce the same results. They all have a filtration element to remove contaminants from the water. They all have an electrolysis chamber which delivers an electrical charge for “ionization” and they all produce alkaline or acidic water with a pH of at least 9.5 with comparable antioxidant properties.
The electrolysis chamber houses platinum coated titanium plates. During the electrolysis process, an electrical charge is delivered to the plates. As the water comes in contact with the plates, soluble minerals in the water are attracted to either a positive or negative pole, depending on the charge of the mineral. Alkaline water is dispensed through one port and acidic water is dispensed through another.
Restructuring occurs as the electrical charge interacts with minerals in the source H2O, converting the H2O to OH- and molecules regroup in smaller clusters. Ordinary tap or bottled water will have clusters of 12 or more molecules while water that has gone through this electrolysis process will have clusters half that size. Like flour sifts more easily through a fine sieve than salt or sand, the smaller water clusters penetrate the cells of the body more easily than the larger water clusters.
The healing properties of this electrolyzed water do not come from the water ionizer itself but from the alkaline ionized water that is produced through the electrolysis process. While only one company produces the trademarked “kangen water,” almost any water ionizer will produce the same quality of water with the same “healing properties.”
“Kangen water” as trademark – it’s great marketing. “Alkaline ionized water” – I wouldn’t call it “miraculous” but I’ve seen it do some amazing things. Myth? Too many comments from too many users say that this is something other than snake oil on tap – as debunkers would have you believe.
